Additional intake of folic acid increases the mother's folate level. Low maternal folate is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. A beneficial effect is achieved with an additional daily intake of at least 400 µg of folic acid during at least one month before and three months after conception.
How to use
